Hong Kong is truly unforgettable.  I stayed in Kowloon during two separate visits in 1997 just before and after the hand over of the colony from Britain to China in 1997. Despite its British colonial past, Hong Kong's  culture is very Chinese and to experience that culture first hand was fascinating.

During my visit there I also managed to visit Macau, the Portuguese equivalent of  Hong Kong. In Macau one really gets the feeling of going back in time with all of its backstreet industry still done in the traditional Chinese way.
